If there's anything to this, it's the most under-reported NFL story of the year. In July of 2003, Patriots coach Bill Belichick and owner Robert Kraft announced that they had agreed to a two-year contract extension through the 2006 season. Neither party has made any announcement about Belichick's contract situation since then. Is Belichick playing out the last few weeks of his contract? Is there a chance he'll be done coaching after this season's playoffs? Is there a chance he'll be a free agent in February, and several owners will be bidding for his services? If so, how much is he worth?I think I'm probably getting way ahead of myself here. I think Belichick will be back in New England next year. But when he was asked about his contract yesterday, his response was, "The press conference is over. We're done." This is an important one to keep an eye on.

I think bill belichick will get a contract extension. the bottom line is he has a very unhealthy football team. every one is injured and he still is on top of his division and he has one some games against big time opponets. He helped the patriots win three super bowls in four years and that will not be forgotten by robert craft. So i think it is a ludicrous notion for anyone to think the patriots would even think abput getting rid of bill belichick!

I worry that if Bill Bilichick leaves, he'll take Brady with him, then where will the Pats be!??! When does Tom's contract expire?

If I'm not mistaken, Brady's contract is good through 2010... I think BB will be back, he just doesn't talk about anything personal... So what, who cares, I don't either... Give him a break...

What may be missing and I take nothing away from what Bill has done for the entire N.East area of the US these last 5-6 years, but what may be missing is more credit for the role Mr Kraft has in dealing with this profitable buisness. Cause thats what the Pats are and thats what Mr. Kraft treats it like. He has arranged a management team the likes of which the nfl has not seen in a while. While writing this im not sure if Mr Pioli was hired before the coach but from those two on down they have assembled an efficient and profitable buisness machine that turns in adequate players and turns out quality all around results and is actually feeding the NFL machine. Mr Kraft didnt start out in football and he wont let go one of footballs greatest ever "overall team managers" if it only comes down to money. Coach will go only if he desires to challenge himself if a tougher envirment. If he ever decides to move on from the pro football scene it would be nice to see him work some magic at Navy!!

Yah know, both Scott Pioli and Bill Belichick have ties to the NY Giants, who may soon be in need of a HC and GM. Don't be surprised...

This revelation is real. People throughout all time and history say all dynasties are destined to fall...and this dynasty is no exception. Look at the facts beyond Bill's contract here; what does he have left to prove? His quarterback is two years from becoming a free agent and deservedly a $100 million QB. McNabb has a $100 contract cannot stay healty and has not won jack. Vick has one and still cannot throw 20 yard out consistently. Manning has a close to $100 deal and he still can't win a big game. Brady has done all that these quarterbacks haven't and more. He was told a few years ago upon taking the hometown discount to sign for $68 million that the money saved will be used to sign his weapons...where's Deion now? Where's David Givens?
The Patriots are unfortunately going to understand the other side of the dynasty thing now: the crumbling. It began with assistants, spread to the players and now will affect the front office. What does the ownership do in this position? Pay an inordinate amount of money and mortage the future of profits on maintaining consistency in a rapidly changing arena? Pro sports is not the same anymore where you will have a team stay together for 10 years. With the ushering out of Bill Cowher in Pittsburgh, we are seeing a dying breed taking himself out before the business does it. 16 years as a head coach in the modern era of salary caps and growth of the Players Union is nothing short of a miracle. So with Bill Belichick possibly being on the way out is conceivable. Why? One thing people I hate...people I call fans, can't understand is that these people are competitive. It's like when I used to play Madden on Franchise Mode. You take the Arizona Cardinals and build them up to perennial Super Bowl contender. However after a while of winning, the challenges are no longer there.
When was the last time this man had to salivate over a draft board knowing that he had a chance to select a certifiable difference maker or trade down for more picks and build the team via quantity? If Bill is smart, he would get out now. The AFC East is about to become a beast of a division for the next 5-8 seasons. All of the coaches and organizations have taken his template and are spinning it beautifully to strengthen their organizations. Going to the NFC would be great for him as he can build from the ground up. If it is the Giants, he basically has the same team he took over in 2000 for the Patriots...overpaid underacheivers who talk big but play like chumps. They also have a young shell shocked QB, a troubled wide receiver and a defense that can't get off the field on 3rd down. All things considered, I can see this happening. This is why I love the NFL. Everybody at some point in time has a chance to be the big dog. I knew this was the best league when the Bucs won the bowl a few years back.
